Farmers Market Opens in Wildwood

Photo by Sunshine Lopez, Jersey Life Photography

PRESS RELEASE

WILDWOOD - Saturday mornings in Wildwood are now even more delicious. On June 28, officials cut the ribbon marking the grand opening of the Downtown Wildwood Farmers Market.

Located at the corner of Schellenger and Pacific avenues, the market offers shoppers more than 20 booths offering everything from locally grown produce and honey to wine, olive oils and artisinal teas.  The market is open rain or shine every Saturday through Aug. 30 from 8:30 a.m.  to 1 p.m.

If the first day was any indication of the next 10 weeks, the market is a huge hit.  Hundreds of people walked through the one-block square market. In addition to vendors offering samples of their wares, a stilt walker made his way through the crowd as a balloon artist fashioned hats and other latex “works of art” for children and adults.

“This is fantastic,” said Commissioner Pete Byron, who oversees the city’s departments of Revenue and Finance.  “This is the first step to build confidence in the commercial district. We’re hoping that this is going to give incentive to other people to come to town and start opening up businesses on Pacific Avenue.”

Mayor Ernie Troiano congratulated the Wildwood Business Improvement District (BID) for putting together the market.

“This is a tremendous idea that we hope turns into something even more as it expands,” said Troiano as he presented a proclamation from the city declaring June 28 as Downtown Wildwood Farmers Market Day throughout Wildwood.

The mayor noted during his youth, “Wildwood was the mecca of shopping. Hopefully this is the beginning of people coming back to Pacific Avenue and it will show that we have more to offer than just the beach and the boardwalk.

"This farmers market is a tremendous idea. We’re excited about it and we hope everyone enjoys it.”

Grab your buckets and shovels and get ready to create works of art. Making sand castles at the beach has been a fun summertime family activity since the first shell washed ashore, and now this great American pastime is coming back to the Wildwoods in a big way.

New activities will be featured at this year’s festival including horseshoes, corn hole and other games, as well as live music throughout the day, starting with local band Twelve:01 performing progressive and classic rock; followed by The Mango Men with their energized and ‘sand castle-inspiring’ summer themed party music.

Wildwood Cuts Ribbon Opening Dog Beach

From left at Dog Park opening on Saturday is Mayor Ernie Troiano,
Commissioner Pete Byron and Commissioner Anthony Leonetti

Below is the official press release from the City of Wildwood on the opening of the new Dog Beach at Poplar Avenue.

To view our Facebook album of photos from the ribbon-cutting ceremony, click HERE.

PRESS RELEASE

Dogs and their owners flocked onto Wildwood’s Poplar Avenue beach Sat., June 14 as city officials cut the ribbon to officially mark the opening of the city’s newly designated dog beach

It was a picture perfect dog afternoon as pets and people strolled across the sand, down to the water’s edge to experience a late spring day at the beach.

“This has been a long time coming,” stated Commissioner Peter Byron in a release. Byron was instrumental in establishing the local dog beach.

Looking over crowd of beachgoers and their four-legged friends, Byron noted that pets play a vital role in families.

“Now there is another reason to come to town because you can bring your whole family to enjoy the beach and the ocean and have a great time,” Byron continued.

With the snip of ceremonial scissors Fido and Fluffy headed down to the beach for a day of frolic and fun.

Leashed pets romped in the water with their owners and soaked up the sun.

Year-old Calli made her way from Philadelphia here to celebrate the dog beach’s grand opening.

Calli’s owner, Adessa Marigliano, stated it was her dog’s first experience on sand or in the water.

“I love it,” stated Marigliano as Calli tugged on her leash wanting to go farther into the waves. Marigliano learned of the ribbon cutting from her father. The father-daughter pair, along with Calli, made going to Wildwood’s dog beach a weekend excursion.

“This is great,” she added, noting the dog-friendly beach gives pets an opportunity to enjoy family time with their owners as well as giving dogs a chance to socialize. “We’ll definitely be back.”

The Wildwoods to Officially Open Dog-Friendly Beach for the Summer on Saturday, June 14

PRESS RELEASE

Dogs and their owners will now be able to enjoy fun-filled days together at a dedicated area of the Wildwoods’ beach starting Saturday, June 14.

City officials will cut the ribbon to officially open the newly designated dog-friendly beach located at Poplar Avenue at noon on Saturday, June 14. Previously, dogs were permitted on the beaches only during the off-season, a hindrance for summer vacationing families who travel with their four-legged friends. Now the Wildwoods are a summer shore vacation destination for man’s best friend as well.

“The dog-friendly beach that is now open for the summer makes the Wildwoods that much more of a family-friendly destination,” said executive director of the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement & Development Authority (GWTIDA) John Siciliano.

“Many families consider their four-legged friends family members and insist on traveling with their pets. The Wildwoods now make it possible for the entire 'family' to vacation together,” he added.

The new ordinance – passed on May 14 – designates an area of the Wildwoods’ beach at Poplar Avenue as dog-friendly. The ordinance requires dogs to be licensed and on a leash at all times. Owners are also responsible for cleaning up after their pets and disposing the waste in a designated dog waste trash bin.

Dogs will be able to visit the beach from 6 a.m. until dusk and will be permitted on the boardwalk at the access ramps of Poplar Avenue and Magnolia Avenue to access the beach.

For additional information about the Wildwoods, visit www.WildwoodsNJ.com or call 800-992-9732.
