“Watch the Globetrotters, Please” as the World-Famous Basketball Team Greets Fans on the Wildwoods Boardwalk Aboard the Wildwoods’ Sightseer Tram Cars Tuesday, August 7

“Watch the Tram Car, Please” becomes “Watch the Globetrotters, Please”

The entire Harlem Globetrotters team will parade down the Wildwoods boardwalk in the famous Sightseer Tram Cars on Tuesday, August 7 at 10:30 a.m., to show off their ball handling magic, interact with fans and pose for photos as they ride up the boardwalk with the chant “Watch the Globetrotters, Please” and the sound of "Sweet Georgia Brown" filling the air.

The Globetrotter-packed Tram Car will begin its ride down the boardwalk at the “WILDWOODS” sign at Rio Grande Avenue and proceed to 15th Street. The Tram Car ride precludes the Globetrotters exclusive east coast summer appearance at the Wildwoods Convention Center for a four-game series from Wednesday, August 8  through Saturday, August 12.

Floss Stingel, the voice behind “Watch the Tram Car, Please”, stepped behind the microphone last year for the first time since 1971 to re-record her famous announcement to say “Watch the Globetrotters, Please” especially for the Harlem Globetrotters’ 2011 premiere ground-breaking summer visit to the Wildwoods; and Wildwoods officials are excited to reload and play the unique recording for this 2012 encore Tram Car ride by the Globetrotters.

Stingel’s original recording in 1971, ironically, occurred the same year as the Globetrotters last lost to the Washington Generals (January 5, 1971 in Martin, Tennessee). Another interesting fact is that Greyhound, the company that supplies the Globetrotters’ transportation around the country, manufactured the original Wildwoods’ Tram Cars for the 1939 World’s Fair.

The Globetrotters will play a four-game series at the Wildwoods Convention Center from Wednesday, August 8 through Saturday, August 11; with games nightly at 7 p.m.

Tickets for the games are available at www.harlemglobetrotters.com. Tickets are also available at www.ticketmaster.com or the Wildwoods Convention Center Box Office.

Local Graffiti Artist Commissioned for Morey’s Adventure Pier Art Makeover

David Macomber Paints at Morey’s Piers

PRESS RELEASE

Morey’s Piers is giving Adventure Pier a new look utilizing shipping containers, creating a distinctive and vivid edge to the pier and opening up new signage and art opportunities.

Local artist David Macomber of Shark Sugar NJ was commissioned to give Adventure Pier’s shipping containers a new, extreme look. His work has been featured in Surfer, Eastern Surf and Surfing magazines. Macomber’s passion for surfing and the Jersey Shore permeates his artistic style, making him an ideal candidate for Morey's Piers Adventure Pier Container Art Project.

“We’re continuously striving to showcase the Wildwoods’ in unique, inventive and eco-friendly ways, and while others may want to shy away from graffiti as being taboo, we want to wrap our arms around the culture,” said Jack Morey, Executive Vice President of Morey’s Piers and Beachfront Waterparks.

The whole concept of re-using prefabricated shipping containers has been championed for several years now by the eco and contemporary arts design communities. The original invention of shipping containers had birth in New Jersey out of a necessity to improve efficiency and cut down on theft.

With today’s overabundance of imports, containers have become a low cost method for the eco and arts communities to create shelter. At Morey's Piers the containers will serve a variety of practical and aesthetic purposes from storage, office space, signage and now extreme branding for Morey’s Piers largest collection of extreme rides.

RV parking coming to the beach, but not without opposition

A plan to establish a parking area for recreational vehicles on a stretch of the beach south of the Wildwoods Convention Center is underway, and is quickly becoming the subject of local controversy.

Stakes have been driven into the sand, creating space for approximately 80 RVs just off the Boardwalk, between Hand and Leaming Avenues.

The concept is the City of Wildwood's latest attempt to generate revenue, but many local residents and property owners (including the Homeowners Association of the nearby Ocean Towers) are voicing their opposition.

Concerns include trash/pollution, noise, and safety, while many additionally feel that this usage of city-owned property will create an unwanted eyesore.

City officials insist that the park will be well-maintained and supplied with 24-hour security.

While no firm date has been set, the park is expected to open by late-July/early-August. Spaces will be rented on a nightly basis at an as-yet-unknown rate.

It is important to note that the park is not yet being planned as a permanent fixture. It will be initiated as an "experiment," and is expected to remain open into October.

So, what do you think of this idea?

Is this a smart, viable way for Wildwood to generate revenue? Is this or other concepts that include the further development of areas of the beach good for the present and future of the island?

Animal House set to rock Pacific Avenue on Independence Day

One of our favorite party bands, Animal House, will perform on the Fourth of July at one of our favorite new venues - Cattle 'n Clover's open-air stage on Pacific Avenue.

It's sure to be a heck of a party, and a great time for the whole family. Here's the official release...

PRESS RELEASE

Since Cattle ‘n Clover's grand opening in March, its unique and growing variety of entertainment has put an Irish jig in the right step toward Downtown Wildwoods’ revitalization.

Cattle ‘n Clover is certainly living up to its rich history in music and live entertainment, serving as the venue (then known as the Rainbow Club) for Chubby Checker’s debut of “The Twist” in the 1950’s.

A large wooden garage door slides up to reveal a stage even Checker himself would be itching to twist on.

The elevated stage opens directly onto the sidewalk inviting everyone to enjoy a variety of entertainment from Singer/Songwriter Kris Scherer to Hydeaway, to Animal House, a six piece party dance band that will rock Pacific Avenue’s upcoming 4th of July celebration, this Wednesday.

Animal House consists of all veteran musicians with a crazy fun following after performances everywhere from Vermont, Key West, and Pacific Avenue in Wildwood. Their first Pacific Avenue performance at the Cinco de Mayo Block Party left the Wilwoods wanting more, and that’s what they will get.

Animal House never fails to stir up an irresistibly good time and this 4th of July will be no different!

“We can’t wait to be the soundtrack to an unforgettable 4th of July at Cattle ‘n Clover on Pacific Avenue”, says Bass Guitarist George Garcia.

It sounds like Cattle ‘n Clover will be the perfect sanctuary, just two blocks away from the crowded boardwalk where everyone can sit back, relax and enjoy live entertainment at the only Irish Steakhouse on the island.
