Report: Major Boardwalk revamp in the works

A major structural overhaul of the Boardwalk is in the planning stages, according to a report today from The Press of Atlantic City.

While no specific details or timetable has been made public, Wildwood and North Wildwood officials are looking into solutions to replace sections of rotting wood and concrete supports.

As the report notes, renovation will be no easy task and is likely to be done in phases, perhaps over the course of several years. The estimated cost to replace just one block of boards is $800,000 to $1 million.

One section of boards that will not need refurbishment is the stretch between Oak and Schellenger Avenues, which was replaced with Ipe wood (including screws and no nails) back in 2009 and 2010.

Materials to be used in future replacements remains unknown.

We will continue to follow this story and further developments in the weeks and months to come...
