The annual Mid-Atlantic Police & Fire Suvivors' Weekend in North Wildwood, scheduled for this Friday - Sunday, has been cancelled due to the impending threat of Hurricane Joaquin.
The following was posted on the event's official website:
We are sad to announce this year's MAPFSW has been cancelled. As of 9/30/2015, Hurricane Joaquin was headed toward North Wildwood, bringing heavy rain and very strong winds with it. This creates a serious hazard for all our families, in addition to the fact that it would not be possible to host any outdoor activities (motorcycle thrill show, dragon boat, boardwalk events, etc).
Even if the hurricane moves in a different direction, it is predicted the weather will be bad enough to cause problems along the coast. The first responders who normally take part in our event will be occupied with the weather emergency.
If you have made a hotel reservation with Montego Bay, please call 609-523-1000 for cancellation. You must ask for Karen, our MAPFSW contact. She is the only one authorized to handle hotel issues with MAPFSW and refunds on the room deposit.
Preliminary plans are to pay tribute to the 2015 honorees during next year's Survivors' Weekend scheduled for September 30 - October 2, 2016.
Please contact the North Wildwood Police Department at 609-522-2030 ext. 1503 if you have any questions.
This was not an easy decision but was a necessary one. Please stay safe this weekend and keep our first responders in your thoughts and prayers. Please help spread the word!
