THE WILDWOODS – The Wildwoods are kicking off the summer season and welcoming visitors to enjoy the best of the Jersey shore, and a whole lot more, during Memorial Day Weekend.
Memorial Day Weekend in the Wildwoods is jam-packed with island wide events and happenings, taking place Friday, May 24 through Monday, May 27, as well as Memorial Day remembrance ceremonies.

Official Unlocking of the Ocean Ceremony
Friday, May 24 @ 12 pm
It’s time to get your feet sandy – the fun begins at 12 pm on Friday, May 24 on the beach at Andrews Avenue next to the Wildwoods Convention Center. State, county and local tourism and city officials, dignitaries, guest speakers, and the island’s second grade students will participate in the ceremony to officially unlock the ocean with the Wildwoods’ large, ornate ‘W’ key. Colorful kites will serve as the backdrop as the International Kit Festival simultaneously gets underway. Members of the Media are invited to take part in the day’s activities by flying kites to kick off the International Kite Festival immediately following the Unlocking Ceremony. This event is FREE to attend, and everyone is welcome.

Wildwoods International Kite Festival
Friday, May 24 – Monday, May 27
The 38th annual Wildwoods International Kite Festival, the largest kite festival in North America, features kite fliers and kite makers from around the world flying their most incredible colorful creations. The Kite Festival is FREE to spectators, and kicks off on Friday, May 24 at 12 pm with the Unlocking of the Ocean Ceremony on the beach at Andrews Avenue, south of the Wildwoods Convention Center. Kite festivities follow with the opening of the Kite Sales Tent, a Friday Night Social, and the 9 pm. Illuminated Night Kite Fly at the Rio Grande Avenue beach behind the famous Wildwoods sign.
The Kite Festival continues Saturday, May 25, with Silent and Loud Auctions open to the public, where many unique kites and collectibles will be up for bid. Saturday and Sunday, May 25 and 26 include the flying of large inflatable kites, team flying, as well as family games from 9 am to 6 pm daily. The kite festivities conclude with the World Indoor Kite Competition at the Wildwoods Convention Center on Monday, May 27 beginning at 9:30 am and is FREE to attend. Kite fliers will showcase their impressive ability to fly a kite indoors without wind, and all performances will be choreographed to music.

Enjoy a bit of relaxation and grounding this Memorial Day Weekend with Yoga on the Beach at Burk Avenue behind the Wildwoods Convention Center at 9 am, Friday, May 24 through Monday, May 27. Practice with the sun, surf, and sand for a unique experience featuring a traditional Hatha yoga style class, infused with Qi Gong, a variety of healing therapy and lots of modifications for all levels. The fee for each class is $7 paid to the instructor.

The Downtown Wildwood Farmer’s Market kicks off its 11th season Saturday, May 25 from 8 am to 12:30 pm, rain or shine. The Wildwood Food Truck and Music FEASTival will take place on Sunday, May 26 from 12 pm to 10 p.m. at Byrne Plaza in Downtown Wildwood. 15 food trucks will be serving delectable gourmet food truck cuisiine, including vegetarian options. Scheduled food trucks include: A Taste of Philly, Camille’s Cucina, Chow Wow, Cold Stone Creamery, Dan’s Waffles, House of Cupcakes, Just Fork It, Latin Bites, Mystic Lobster, The Rolling Pita, Smokeology, and Traveling Tomato. Patrick Corcoran 5K Memorial Day Run to Remember

The Annual “Run to Remember” 5K and 1 Mile Walk starts at 15th and the Beach next to the North Wildwood Beach Patrol headquarters. Registration time is 7:30 am, and the race is at 8:30 am. The registration fee is $35. This run benefits our veterans and those that have lost loved ones in service to their country. Proceeds will support the Gold Star Family Monument and expansion of the Veterans Park in North Wildwood.
