PRESS RELEASE
THE WILDWOODS - The Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority (GWTIDA) joined state, county, local, and city officials, guest speakers, and hundreds of elementary school children, along with hundreds of Memorial Weekend visitors, to ‘unlock’ the Wildwoods beaches for the summer 2024 season.
The 38th annual International Kite Festival, the largest Kite Festival in North America, was simultaneously launched over the Wildwoods’ beaches. Colorful kites served as a backdrop, and children of all ages joined in on the fun, launching the kites they made earlier that morning during a children’s Kite Making Workshop inside the Wildwoods Convention Center.
Festivities following the Unlocking of the Ocean include a Kite Sales Tent, a Friday Night Social via the local kite club, and the 9 p.m. Illuminated Night Kite Fly. Saturday includes the Silent and Loud Auctions (open to all); and Saturday and Sunday include the flying of large inflatable kites, team flying, as well as family games from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday features the World Indoor Kite Exhibition inside the Wildwoods Convention Center.
FREE to spectators!
