The Shore Eat - Smash Burger & Subs moving into former Shoobie's location

Several weeks back, we said goodbye to Shoobie's "Good Eats," which announced its closure after 14 years at 25th & New Jersey Avenues in North Wildwood.

Shortly after its signs came down, the corner property received a fresh coat of paint and other exterior touch-ups, spurring speculation that a new business would be arriving soon.

We can now confirm that The Shore Eat - Smash Burger & Subs will be moving in, bringing its wide-ranging selection of burgers, sandwiches, subs/hoagies, salads and more to the island. There are also plans for a cigar and smoke shop next door.

The family-owned business opened its first location at Cornerstone Plaza in Cape May Court House last year (next to its sister operation, Pizza Heaven).

As its extended name suggests, The Shore Eat's signature is its line of smash burgers and specialty sandwiches. Smash burgers differ from regular burgers in the way they're made, starting with a ball of ground beef being firmly pressed (or "smashed") onto the grill with a heavy spatula. This produces a thin patty with a seared, crispy exterior as its juices and flavors are cooked within.

The Shore Eat will offer its full menu at the North Wildwood location, which is expected to be open year round. It will join a growing roster of all-season businesses along a busy stretch of New Jersey Avenue near the North Wildwood/Wildwood border, including the also-soon-to-debut Steve's Prince of Steaks Wildwood.

An opening date has not yet been determined.
