This past spring, it was announced that Steve’s Prince of Steaks, a longtime Philadelphia institution, would be expanding to the Wildwoods.
The opening of the new location, at New Jersey & Juniper Avenues (the former home of Classic Sandwiches), was delayed, but recent on-site activity has sparked much local interest in its status.
Upon reaching out to the company, we learned that Steve’s Prince of Steaks Wildwood is on track to open “in the first quarter of 2024.” A representative also confirmed that the window-service operation is being prepped to stay open year-round.
This will be a welcome arrival along the busy New Jersey Avenue corridor, especially with the recent closure of nearby Shoobie’s Good Eats. Neighboring year-round businesses of note include Green’s Liquors (across Juniper Ave) and Sand Jamm 5Mile (one block north at 26th Ave).
Oasis by Seaport, a new 1.75-acre residential and luxury rental complex by BG Capital, is two blocks south, spanning Magnolia Ave to Glenwood Ave.
The focus of the present work at Steve’s Prince of Steaks Wildwood is on the interior, including kitchen installation and other essential functions. There will be no indoor seating or dining area. A patio with bench seating on the property’s north-facing side (Juniper Ave) is a holdover from the previous business.
The building had previously been painted black and fitted with chrome and checkerboard trim. Additional elements, including neon signage, will be added in the months to come; this visual presentation (see renderings below) will echo the look of Steve’s locations in Philly and promises to compliment the Wildwoods’ classic “Doo Wop” vibe.
