Seaport Pier set to host Kelly’s Kidz 5K this Saturday (August 19th)

Media personality
Bob Kelly has become a fixture in the Wildwoods, an unofficial face of and spokesman for the island.

The personable Fox 29 traffic anchor and feature reporter has produced his weekday morning segments for “Good Day Philadelphia” from the shore since the pandemic.

In the process, he has visited and helped promote hundreds of local businesses, organizations and events, and emceed “countless” public and private functions.

The Northeast Philly native is most proud of his wide-ranging charity work, including that of his own, Kelly’s Kidz.

Founded along with his son, Austin, Kelly’s Kidz partners with businesses and individuals to collect toys and other donated items throughout the year.

“The goal, always, is to put smiles on the faces of children healing in pediatric hospitals,” said Kelly. “It’s the mission most near and dear to my heart.”

This Saturday, August 19,
Seaport Pier will host the 1st Annual Kelly’s Kidz 5K & Family Fun Walk, benefiting pediatric patients at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia.

Kelly is a staple at Seaport Pier, where he hosts his “No Shower Happy Hour” every Friday evening during the summer months.

“This will be something a little different,” Kelly explained of the race event, “but we expect to have a fun, party-like atmosphere and a great time for all involved, supporting a great cause.”

The 5K will begin at 8 am on Saturday morning; it will start and end at Seaport Pier, taking place entirely along the Wildwoods Boardwalk.

Medals will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place male and female winners in nine different age groups, ranging from “9 and under” to “70+.”

Registration is open at $35 per person.

The Family Fun Walk will begin and end at Seaport Pier as well, stepping off promptly after the start of the 5K. Families of up to six walkers can register for only $25.

“We hope to see everyone at Seaport Pier on Saturday to help kick off this event and make it a new yearly tradition,” said Kelly.

“The Wildwoods have embraced me like family, and I couldn’t be more grateful. This is a chance for us all to give back and tap into that spirit of community that makes this place so special.”
