THE WILDWOODS - The Puerto Rican Action Committee (PRAC) of Southern New Jersey is excited to announce that the 2022 Festival Playero Latin Food & Music Festival is scheduled for Friday, August 12 and Saturday, August 13 in Wildwood, NJ.
This year's event will feature Jerry Rivera, India, Grupo Mania and Judy Torres. The event also features up-and-coming talent from the local region, authentic Latin food, plus a cash bar with win and beer for sale. The festival will be held rain or shine.
"We are thrilled to host South Jersey's largest bicultural/bilingual Latin music festival once again," said Ralph Padilla, CEO of PRAC of Southern New Jersey. "We want to thank the City of Wildwood for their efforts in enabling us to host this event and offer our gratitude to our musical guests for coming together for this grand celebration. The events kick off on Friday, August 12 with a White Night party hosted by Morey's Piers PigDog Beach Bar from 7-11 pm, with music by Noche Blanca. Access is exclusive to Executive VIPs and VIPs. Guests who attend must dress in all white. Appetizers will be served for the first two hours, and there will be a cash bar.
Festival Playero kicks off for all ticket holders on Saturday, August 13. Bring a towel to save your spot on the beach at Lincoln Avenue between Morey's Mariner's and Adventure Piers. Festival organizers are pleased to welcome "El Bebe de la Salsa," Jerry Rivera, whose third album won three Platinum record awards in the U.S. Jerry also starred as a judge on Idol Puerto Rico. He will be joined by the "Princess of Salsa" India, who has received both Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations, and is the winner of the Latin Grammy for Best Salsa Album. She is sure to get the crowd moving and shaking.
The star-studded lineup continues with Grupo Mania, who released their debut album in 1993 and have been pleasing audiences ever since with their infections merengue rhythms. Still going strong, the group released its 16th studio album "Los Conquistadores: 25 Aniversario" in December of 2019, which included hits like "Tocaito," "El Animal" and "Chorro Eh Loco," featuring Puerto Rican rapper Nejo and Dominican singer Omega "El Fuerte."
Judy Torres grew up in New York and had a string of club hits before releasing her debut album "Love Story" in 1989. She charted again several times in the 2000's and was dubbed the "Queen of Freestyle" by New York promoter Steve Sylvester. In 2018, there performances of her one-woman off-Broadway debut "No Reason To Cry" sold out in under and hour.
