Wildwood American Legion creates petition to bring Kate Smith statue to town
Following remarks from Mayor Troiano, Post 184 hopes to get the attention of statue owners...
PRESS RELEASE
WILDWOOD - American Legion Post 184 has created a public plea to bring the Kate Smith statue to Wildwood by creating an online petition. Supporting statements from Mayor Ernie Troiano Jr made this week, Post 184 took the initiative to jumpstart the potential discussions for the statue’s new home.
“God Bless America represents every veteran,” says Post Commander Harry Weimar. “Every veteran is affected by this. As far as I am concerned, Kate Smith is Miss Patriotism.”
When Mayor Troiano stated “God Bless America” would continue to play on the boardwalk at 11 AM, the Wildwood veterans fully supported the decision. Now that the idea of bringing Kate Smith’s statue to Wildwood was presented by the Mayor, Post 184 hopes to gain signatures on their petition.
The statue would join Wildwood’s already successful veteran memorials, the Vietnam Memorial Wall and Memory Lane, and be displayed on the famous Wildwood Boardwalk that boasts Kate Smith’s rendition of “God Bless America” daily at 11 a.m.
“I agree with Mayor Troiano. I feel Wildwood is a very veteran friendly City and there would be no bigger honor than to have Kate Smith here in Wildwood,” said Weimar. “Myself and Post 184 fully support the Mayor. There is no other non-veteran that I know who supports the veterans as much as Ernie does.”
The petition can be signed online at iPetitions under “Bring The Kate Smith Statue to Wildwood” or through this short link:
