Boardwalk Coca-Cola sign being reinstalled today - on National Have a Coke Day, no less!

Here's a pause... that refreshes!

On this sunny, mild spring morning in the Wildwoods, conditions are ideal for the re-installation of the famous Coca-Cola script sign at Boardwalk & Cedar Avenue.

Last year, A.B.S. Sign Co. was contracted by the Coca-Cola Company to completely refurbish the sign, which had been perched inactive above Harry's Corner for years.

It was removed last November and spent the past six months at the A.B.S. headquarters on Park Avenue, where it was stripped down and repainted, and fitted with new neon and bulb-studded lights.

The project represents the largest sign restoration on the Boardwalk - or elsewhere in the Wildwoods, for that matter - in recent memory. According to A.B.S. owner Randy Hentges, the all-aluminum COCA and COLA portions weigh about 500 lbs. each.

We can't wait to see the sign in action again, especially at night, when it will undoubtedly bring a new glow to one of the Boardwalk's busiest hubs.

HOORAY for preservation!

Interestingly enough, today is National Have a Coke Day. (Yes, this is a real thing.)

While we're assuming this is a mere coincidence, we'll have to ask Randy if he chose this date on purpose.

What are the odds?

(Update: Yep, pure coincidence!)
