PRESS RELEASE
The summer of 2017 will long be remembered by the sound of “surf’s up!” being heard on Wildwood’s wide, sandy beach now that a dedicated surfing area has been designated on the beach at Andrews Avenue.
As part of the city’s Fourth of July weekend activities city officials, surfers and surfing aficionados were on hand to snip a ceremonial surfboard leash thereby opening the newest attraction on Wildwood’s wide beach.
“Our beach never had a dedicated surfing area,” said Commissioner Pete Byron. “This is a first for the city.” Byron said that adding a surfing beach is another step in the city’s commitment to making its world-famous beach even more user-friendly.
“Just like the rest of our beaches our surfing beach is free and open to all. There is no charge to surf in Wildwood,” said Byron. For those wishing to learn to surf or rent a board, a nearby privately-owned concession stand offers lessons, rentals, drinks and a myriad of surfing-related items. The new surf beach is located to the south of the Wildwoods Convention Center.
“A visit to Wildwood offers something for everyone,” Byron said. “No matter what your interest, Wildwood has something to please even the most discriminating vacationer. By bringing a designated surfing beach to our sand we hope to see many more visitors enjoying their Wildwood days.”
