Big turnout for today's Polar Bear Plunge in North Wildwood

Outstanding weather and a big turnout put the exclamation points on this morning's Fallen Heroes Polar Bear Plunge in North Wildwood.

Our unofficial observations at 11 a.m. had the air temperature at 55.8 degrees and the water temp at 45.1.

Conditions for the event, which took place at 15th-16th Beach, were foggy due to the unseasonable humidity; though the sun did its best to shine through.

Official participation numbers have yet to be announced, but there's little doubt that this was a record-setter.

Held every February, the Fallen Heroes Polar Plunge is dedicated to the memory of law enforcement heroes who lost their lives in the line of duty. Proceeds will benefit the Philadelphia Fallen Heroes Fun, MRSA Awareness and local scholarships.
