Morey's Piers to host/sponsor over 20 special events in 2011

PRESS RELEASE

With the start of warm weather upon us, Morey’s Piers in the Wildwoods, NJ is getting ready for its most exciting year yet – featuring the opening of the pier’s new attraction, “it”, along with a jam-packed calendar of over 20 unique, unusual events featuring a little something for everyone – whether you’re 8 or 81 years old!

Easter Sunday, April 24, kicks off the 2011 season with a grand-opening full of fun, food and entertainment for the entire family – including “pick an Easter egg” for the little ones and a visit from the Easter Bunny. Two weeks later on Mother’s Day – May 8 – Morey’s invites families to bring mom to the piers for some extra TLC, while the rest of the family enjoys all of the one-of-a-kind rides and attractions Morey’s has to offer.

Memorial Day Weekend 2011 is another exciting holiday weekend at Morey’s Piers. Saturday, May 28 will feature Morey’s 2nd Annual Curley Fry Food Festival. The festival will feature contests and events for all ages – including amateur eating competitions to see who can eat the most Curley Fries in the shortest amount of time allotted.

Also during Memorial Day Weekend 2011, Morey’s will officially open its brand-new attraction called ‘it.’ ‘it’ will be located at 26th Street in North Wildwood and will swing, spin, and fly to heights of over 65 feet.

The new attraction combines a swinging motion up to 120° and a rotating center where gondolas, seating a total of 24 passengers, are facing each other, along with a new type of harness specially designed by the ride’s engineers and Morey's Piers’ team. For the first time, classic shoulder restraints will be replaced by lap-bars – allowing passengers the chance to enjoy the ride with more thrills and greater freedom of movement.

For sporting enthusiasts, Morey’s will host its annual Cape Express Beach Blast Soccer Tournament Saturday, June 25 and Sunday, June 26, featuring youth and adult soccer teams from throughout the East Coast competing in a barefoot soccer tournament on the sand off of Morey’s Piers. Due to the event’s popularity, another Cape Express Beach Blast Soccer Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17, along with a Beach Lacrosse Tournament also taking place that weekend.

Supporting the region’s youth is a major initiative for Morey’s Piers, and events like Morey’s Spring Beach Jam, May 20-22, Beach Bop, June 4, and Fall Beach Jam, September 23-25, do just that. Each event supports welcomes scout troops and features fun at Morey’s Piers and on the Wildwoods’ beach and boardwalk. Morey’s will also host Music in the Parks on Friday, May 20 – a music competition featuring bands and choirs from all over the tri-state area; and Morey’s “On Stage” Dance Expo, Saturday, July 9 to Sunday, July 10.

New for 2011, Morey’s Piers will host the first-ever “Wild Half” Half-Marathon on Sunday, August 28.
