Doo Wop Wednesday: "In Fashion"

The island's treasured collection of mid-century motels is gaining more attention in the press, across the internet, and in the fashion world, according to a press release sent out by the Doo Wop Preservation League today.

Photographer Kamila Harris incorporated various Doo Wop spots as backdrops for her "Starlet Sessions" shoots back in October, inviting aspiring models to "become a Hollywood starlet for a day" by dressing and posing in a style reminiscent of "pin-up" portraints from the 1950s.

Additionally, acclaimed New York fashion design label "Beckerman" used several Wildwood motels as a backdrop for the release of its Spring/Summer 2009 clothing collection.

The release includes comments from DWPL advisory board member Mike D'Angelo, who also moderates the league's message forum.

Each Wednesday, we'll spotlight various examples of "Doo Wop" architecture (past and present), and/or news and progress reports pertaining to preservationalist efforts in the Wildwoods.
