The Wildwoods host 12th Annual Wildwood Crest Sand Sculpting Festival ~ Friday, July 12th

PRESS RELEASE

THE WILDWOODS - Families, friends, and kids of all ages: Head to the beach to play in the sand at Heather Road in Wildwood Crest during the 12th annual Wildwood Crest Sand Sculpting Festival on Friday, July 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Grab your buckets and shovels and create works of art. Making sandcastles on the beach has been a fun summertime family activity since the first shell washed ashore, and now this great American pastime is celebrated in the Wildwoods each summer. This amateur and semi-pro sand sculpting contest is free to all participants and spectators.

Fun activities featured at this year’s festival include the Hocus-Pocus, It’s Joe Fischer Magic Show at 10:30 a.m., followed by live music from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. by Rustic Revival, a southern rock and modern country band.

The festival is organized in conjunction with Can You Dig It Sand Tools and hosted by internationally known sand sculptor Matt Long. Long is a regular competitor at master competitions, including the World Championship of Sand Sculpting, and is an original cast member of the former Travel Channel Show Sand Masters. Long’s career in sand sculpting began right here in South Jersey at amateur events like this one.

Long will begin sculpting his design on Tuesday, July 9. The public is welcome and encouraged to follow his progress each day.

For the first time ever, participants in the pro-am division will begin their sculptures one day earlier, on Thursday, July 11. Registration for the contest is FREE and will be held at 8:30 a.m. the day of the event. The first 100 registrants are guaranteed a free official event T-shirt. All others will receive a T-shirt as supplies last.

Sculptures will be judged on creativity, execution, composition, and overall presentation. Prizes and awards will be presented to the top three winners in each division. There will also be a People’s Choice Award for Best on the Beach, where the winner is selected by spectator ballot. To ensure a level playing field, the contest will have six separate divisions ranging from solo youth and youth groups to solo adult and adult teams.
