Just about every corner of the Wildwoods is being touched by “change” in some way, with several major projects nearing completion and new businesses popping up all over the island.
It’s a busy time, but few entrepreneurs have kept busier than Anthony Renzulli. The high-energy South Philadelphia native “realized a dream” when he opened his first Antney’s Grub location outside of his hometown two years ago - at the Aruba Motel (2001 Surf Avenue) in North Wildwood.
This morning, Renzulli announced that he is set to expand his operation by opening a second location at the Jolly Roger Motel in Wildwood Crest, taking over the spacious former Neverland Cafe.
“After the success we’ve had [at the North Wildwood location], it just makes sense to go bigger, but this is even beyond where I thought we’d go,” Renzulli said. “The Jolly Roger is one of the most popular motels in the Crest, prime place. Great location, great motel.
“This will be the largest space I’ve had to work with. The setting is awesome, with big windows looking out over the pool area. It’s beautiful!”
Renzulli expects to open at the Jolly Roger sometime in May; the cafe will offer breakfast and lunch this summer, while the Aruba dinette will continue to serve up lunch and dinner.
He also teased a second announcement, which he expects to make in the coming weeks:
“I have something else, too, more big news in the works. I’m just as excited about this one, so stay tuned. It’s gonna be a big year, we’re going all out. There will even be Antney’s Grub ads on the Tram Cars this summer. We’ll be all over the place.”
Previously an institution on Oregon Avenue in South Philly, Antney’s Grub arrived at the Aruba Motel in North Wildwood during the Spring of 2021. One of over a dozen food spots to debut in the Wildwoods that summer season, it was an instant hit that has continued to garner a loyal following.
“I think one of the coolest things is how we’ve had our old friends and customers from South Philly follow us down, while others have discovered us down here for the first time,” Renzulli said. “It’s a great mix of people from all over, and everyone has their favorites.”
Those favorites include Antney’s signature Texas Wieners, original cheesesteaks, award-winning meatballs and pork, and Frab Fries - french fries covered in lump crab meat and seasoned with Old Bay, with Antney’s Sauce on the side.
Antney's Grub is now hiring cooks for the 2023 summer season. Those interested can visit the Aruba Motel location at 2001 Surf Avenue or call 609-770-7002.
