Stewart’s Root Beer to be transformed into Papi’s Taco Shack

NOTE:
The accompanying images represent a very early stage of this project. The margarita bar and rear deck (yellow structure) will NOT be included in the finished product.

Work is underway on a dramatic overhaul of one of the Boardwalk’s most prominent businesses.

Since it opened at Magnolia Avenue in 2008, Stewart’s Root Beer has been the only standalone eatery on the east/beach side of the wooden way (not connected to an amusement pier), but its run has come to an end.

This Spring, the location will become home to Papi’s Taco Shack.

To the best of our knowledge, this will be the first specialized taco outlet on the Boardwalk. The Taco Joint has been serving guests at Mariner’s Pier since 2014.

While full details are not yet available (we can’t wait to get a look at the menu!) we do know that Stewart’s 50’s stylings will be traded in for a surf shack theme, with a rustic, distressed look, vibrant accents and motifs echoing a “SoCal beach” vibe.

Papi’s will make full use of the building’s layout, with plenty of open-air seating on both floors. The second level dining area received a new roof in 2018, and will undoubtedly remain a favorite spot to catch Friday Night Firework shows during the summer.

The venture is the latest entry from the owners of both Capt’n Jack’s Island Grill locations (2701 Boardwalk and Boardwalk Mall at Garfield Avenue), Harbor Burger Bar in Stone Harbor and the new Nucky's Grill & Speakeasy in Ventnor.

When we hear more, we’ll be shore to taco-bout it!     (Ung.)
