ALL CLEAR! Swimming advisories lifted on all Cape May County beaches

Swimming advisories have been lifted on all Cape May County beaches, several of which were previously cited for high bacteria levels.

In all, 47 beaches in Cape May and Atlantic counties had tested for elevated fecal coliform levels.

This is not an uncommon occurrence after periods of heavy rain. Downpours sweep animal waste, mostly, into storm drains that empty into the ocean.

A test of the water levels at several beaches on Monday returned high bacteria levels. But Tuesday's results showed marked improvements, as expected.

Beaches are closes only when consecutive samples exceed state standards.
