Chimney Cake House coming to North Wildwood Boardwalk

A new eatery, Chimney Cake House, is set to open later this Spring at 2206 Boardwalk.

This is the former location of South Philly Texas Wieners, which sat empty for the entire 2017 season. It is next door to Rapunzel's and across the boards from Seaport Pier, the multi-purpose venue currently under construction.

As Chimney Cake House's tagline - "A Taste of Transylvania" - suggests, it will specialize in delicacies found in regions of Romania that bear its name.

Chimney Cakes, traditionally called Kürtöskalács, are split cakes specific to Hungary and Hungarian-speaking regions of Romania. They are made from sweet yeast dough, of which a strip is spun and then wrapped around a truncated cone-shaped baking split, then rolled in granulated sugar.

It is roasted over charcoal while basted with melted butter, until its surface cooks to a golden brown color. during the baking process, the sugar on the cake carmelizes and forms a shiny, crispy crust. The surface of the cake can then be topped with additional ingredients such as ground walnut or powdered cinnamon.

Sounds pretty good, huh?

It's always exciting to see new businesses arrive in the Wildwoods with each new season, but even better when they bring with them something totally unique.

We'll be keeping an eye on this one, and will post more info and an opening date when it's announced.

In the meantime, you can connect with Chimney Cake House on Facebook.
