Mack's Pizza, a name and taste synonymous with the Wildwood Boardwalk since 1953, opens this morning for its 66th season.
The original Wildwood Avenue pizzeria will serve up pies on weekends for now, and will go to an everyday schedule closer to Memorial Day. Mack's other location, 9 blocks south at Roberts Avenue, will open later in the Spring.
One of the Jersey Shore's most enduring traditions, Mack's traces its history to the early 1950's, when Anthony and Lena Macaroni operated a restaurant near the local fairgrounds in Trenton.
To our knowledge, Mack's is the second-oldest business in operation along the Boardwalk, behind only Douglass Fudge (opened in 1919). Sam's Pizza Palace is celebrating its 61st anniversary this year. Morey's Piers will turn 50 in 2019.
