BeaverTails offers a unique taste of Canada on the Boardwalk

Canadian visitors have been a vital part of the Wildwoods' summertime scene for decades.

While our Neighbors to the North, island locals and other vacationers may not agree on a favorite hockey team, our collective passion for this island forms the structure of a unique common bond.

And we all now have Canada to thank for one of the strongest recent additions to the Boardwalk in BeaverTails, which debuted two summers ago and is now in the midst of its second full season at 4404 Boardwalk (directly across from the entrance to Adventure Pier, between Spencer and Youngs Avenues).

BeaverTails, a true Canadian institution, was founded in 1978 by the husband and wife team of Grant and Pam Hooker, in Ottawa, Ontario. In the nearly 40 years since, the company has expanded dramatically. But it wasn't until 2015 that it made it's United States debut... guess where?

Right here in Wildwood, New Jersey (we've always been a "town of firsts," eh?)

Sooooo, what exactly is a BeaverTails?

"Essentially, a BeaverTails pastry is a fried dough, whole wheat, that you can put an assortment of toppings on, such as chocolate hazelnut spread or chocolate with bananas, or simply just cinnamon and sugar," explained franchise owner Medrick Santavicca.

"This product is unique because it's in between a funnel cake and a crepe, crispy on the outside and warm and chewy on the inside."

BeaverTails also offers poutine, an authentic Canadian delicasy (French fries topped with cheese curds and gravy), as well as homemade gelato.

"I can certainly say that there is nowhere on the boardwalk where you will find any of these products," said Santavicca. "We're really happy to be here in Wildwood. So far, the crowd reaction to our product has been unbelievable."

BeaverTails Wildwood is open from 11 a.m. to midnight through Labor Day Weekend.

(We will update with any revised hours in September.)

Stop by and experience all that BeaverTails has to offer (it's A LOT), and be sure to follow the store on Instagram (@beavertailswildwood) for great product photos and additional information.
