Townsends Inlet Bridge closed for repair

Townsends Inlet Bridge, which connects Avalon to Sea Isle City, has been closed for repairs according to The Press of Atlantic City.

The span is located approximately 12 miles north of the Wildwoods, and is part of Ocean Drive, a coastal route that connects barrier island towns from Atlantic City to Cape May.

Drivers will have to use north-south running Route 9 or the Garden State Parkway to circumvent the area.

The 77-year-old toll bridge, which is owned by Cape May County, was closed after a crack was discovered on one of its support piers 30 feet underwater.

County officials are hopeful that the bridge will be repaired and reopened before Memorial Day.
