The Borough of Wildwood Crest has installed AccessMats at the east end of the wooden walkways at the entrances to the beach at three locations throughout the borough on a trial basis for the remainder of the summer season.
The mats have been installed at the east end of wooden beach walkways at the Fern Road, Rambler Road and Miami Avenue beach entrances.
According to the website of AccessRec, the manufacturer of the product, AccessMats are portable and removable rollout access routes that can be used in a multitude of applications, particularly beach environments, for individuals of all abilities (pedestrians and wheelchairs access), as well as strollers.
AccessMats are made of polyester, which allows the product to contour to an undulating surface while also maintaining rigidity and strength.
Wildwood Crest Commissioner of Public Works Don Cabrera said he welcomes the public’s input on the recently installed AccessMats.
“These mats have been placed at the three beach entrances on a trial basis so our residents and visitors can decide if they are worthy for consideration for the future,” Cabrera said. “We have been seeking alternatives to our wooden plank walkways in recent years because they can be very maintenance unfriendly, difficult to move and labor intensive.”
