Road work begins on New Jersey Avenue; expected to be finished by year's end

Work began earlier this week on a project to upgrade New Jersey Avenue, from 26th Avenue to Youngs Avenue - a stretch of 14 city blocks.

The $2.6 million venture will include the replacement of concrete curbs, the addition of handicap access ramps at intersections and improved traffic signals.

Construction is expected to be finished by the end of the year.

What to expect...

The northbound lanes will be worked on first, and are expected to take about weeks to complete. During this time, southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane.

Once the northbound lanes are finished, the southbound lanes will be closed and worked on.

At this time, northbound traffic is being detoured to either Park Boulevard to the west or Pacific Avenue to the east. All truck and large vehicle traffic must use Park.

We will pass along any notable updates or changes, should they arise...
