The scheduled restoration of the iconic Wildwoods Sign at Boardwalk & Rio Grande Avenue has begun.
The project will be carried out in two phases so that the letters "WILDWOODS" will always be visible.
Phase one will consist of removal of the front letters, leaving the background intact. Phase two will entail installation of refurbished and refinished letters, followed by the removal, refinishing and replacement of the background letters.
The entire process is scheduled to take approximately two weeks to complete.
The Wildwoods' Earthcam will continue to stream live HD video of sign 24-7, so those unable to visit during the renovation can check out the progress at any time:

“The Wildwoods Sign was unveiled in 2008, and since then, we have welcomed millions of visitors to touch, lean on and pose with the sign for once-in-a-lifetime photographs and memories. Needless to say this, and the salt air and winds, has dulled the sign’s original finish,” said John Siciliano, executive director of Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement & Development Authority.
“The refurbishment will bring the sign back to its original condition for everyone’s enjoyment for years to come."
