The Wildwoods, NJ – The undead are back to haunt the boardwalk of Wildwoods, NJ. On September 27, 2014, Morey’s Piers will host The Zombie Mud Run, a post-apocalyptic 5K obstacle race along the beach and piers.
The thrilling zombie-themed race challenges runners to eat or be eaten as they face obstacles including huge sand mounds, slides and “quicksand” pits.
Combining both natural and manmade hurdles, the course will take participants through the ocean, under the boardwalk to the deep, dark, recesses of the unknown, and down Morey’s Piers’ famed 60 feet tall six-lane water slide – WipeOut!
Adding another element of adventure, this year’s course will include a ride on Morey’s Great White wooden roller coaster. *Must meet all safety and height requirements to ride.
Racers are invited to register as either a “Human,” with the mission to save the human race by escaping the living dead, or as a “Zombie,” who will “hunt” the “Human” runners adding an extra degree of challenge to the race.
All participating runners will receive a complimentary wristband valid for admission to the amusement rides at Mariner’s Piers located at Schellenger Avenue and the Boardwalk on the day of the race. Mariner’s Pier will be open noon until 10:00pm, with the ghoulishly popular Ghost Ship attraction open from 5:00pm to 10:00pm.
During the race, “Humans” will wear a flag football belt with three flags, representing their vital organs, which “Zombies” will try to “eat” by capturing the flags. Whether you survive or get infected, everyone is invited to refuel at Wrecker’s Beach Grille located at Raging Waters Water Park located at the end of Mariner’s Pier. A variety of food and beverages will be available for purchase, including a selection of beers for those 21 years and over.
To participate as a “Human” or “Zombie,” runners must be at least 13 years of age or older and pre-register at www.moreyspiers.com/zombierun. The price of registration ranges from $41.00 to $91.00 depending on the running category. Special student and military pricing is available.
This year’s race will also feature Zombie Mud Run Junior, a specialty themed wave starting at 12:30pm for kids 12 and under along with their parents. Juniors must be accompanied by an adult, and can choose to be a Human or a Zombie. Adults can purchase a ticket in the 12:30 waive and participate with the juniors or purchase a spectator ticket and follow alongside next to the course.
