Let the fun begin - Irish Fest / Car Show Weekend is underway

Forget the fact that today is the last official day of Summer 2011.

The Wildwoods' "second season" is set to get underway with the start of one of the biggest weekends on the annual event calendar. That's right, both the Irish Fall Festival and the Boardwalk Classic Car Show kick off today.

Irish Fest, which is expected to draw 200,000 people (!) to the island this weekend, will run through Sunday.

The four-day celebration of Irish culture begins tonight at the "Official Irish Music Tent" (where Olde New Jersey Ave. meets the beach), which will be transformed into a boxing arena.

Ten amateur bouts, sanctioned by the Middle Atlantic Boxing Association, will feature the Harrowgate Boxing Club (Philly) vs. the Holy Family Boxing Club (Belfast, Northern Ireland). The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $25.00 in advance and $30 at the event. To reserve or for additional info, call 215-465-1778.

Car Show Weekend begins tonight with a Classic Car Street Fair, which will be held on Sweet Briar, Wisteria, and Columbine Roads in the Crest. A drive-in-style movie showing will begin at dusk.

Cars will be displayed along the Boardwalk tomorrow and Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

Prizes will be awarded Saturday night from 6 - 8 p.m. in front of the Wildwoods Convention Center.

All car show events are FREE to spectators.

For more info, call 609-523-8051 or visit www.ThunderMoto.com.
