Tree Lighting Opens Season in North Wildwood

PRESS RELEASE

NORTH WILDWOOD — The Christmas season is officially underway here after Mayor Bill Henfey lit the Christmas tree at Hereford Lighthouse Friday evening.

Bitter cold, windy weather didn’t deter hundreds of merry people from enjoying the old-fashioned celebration that included songs by Dolly McGee, music by the Margaret Mace Choir, and a visit from Santa.

Many took advantage of the occasion to tour the lighthouse free of charge. Hot chocolate and cookies were available, too. And some even did a bit of Christmas shopping in the Gift Shop, where Steve Murray’s new book, “Guardians of the Hereford Inlet," as well as “Cooking with Friends” (Friends of the Hereford Lighthouse, that is), were for sale.

Henfey said, “This heart-warming, family event was the perfect protection against the wintry weather. The Christmas spirit filled the courtyard as our whole community huddled together excitedly waiting for Santa.”

The North Wildwood Holiday Decorating Contest is also in progress. If you haven’t already, you’ll want to sign up by Friday, Dec. 10. For more information, call 609-523-2728.
