Monday Memories: Peyko family (1940s & 60s)

This week's vintage family vacation photos come to us courtesy of Mark Peyko, publisher of the Monthly Metro in Youngstown, Ohio.

Mark's family history in the Wildwoods goes back over seven decades. In the late 1940s, his Uncle Ed and cousin Eddie built a cottage near what is now Shawcrest and Lavender Roads, southwest of the Rio Grande drawbridge.

Depicted above (from left to right) are Mark's Aunt Liz, Uncle Ed, and his mom on the porch of the cottage. Mark estimates that this photo, likely taken by his father, was snapped around 1953-54.

Fastforward to the mid-60s. Here is Mark (on the right) with his older brother Chris, on vacation in Wildwood. Mark recalls of the family's Volkswagen Bus: "It felt like it never exceeded 40 mph on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, but it was really roomy."

And, finally, here is Mark's dad and brother Chris enjoying a dip in the ocean and the beach of Wildwood Crest in the mid-60s. Mark humorously recalls that his dad wore the same bathing suit throughout the 80s, something he reminded him of over a recent dinner.

Thanks to Mark for sharing these wonderful family memories with us!
