Wildwood-based group donates to Cohanzick Zoo

According to the Cumberland County News, the Holly Beach Public Library Association recently cut a check for $5,000 to the Cohanzick Zoo in Bridgeton.

The zoo incurred costly damages during last month's winter storms, most notably to its barred owl and coati exhibits. Bridgeton Mayor Ed Begley, quoted several times in the article, was stunned by the amount of the donation.

Opened in 1934, Cohanzick was New Jersey's first zoo. It covers 1,100 acres in Bridgeton's city park.

The HBPLA has quietly donated to a variety of causes and institutions over the years, including the Deborah Hospital Foundation and Fairleigh Dickinson University.
