The Wildwood City Commission introduced an ordinance to allow liquor sales on the Boardwalk at its March 10 meeting, according to Joe Hart of the Cape May County Herald.
The measure was unanimously approved, with a number of restrictions factored in. The next step toward implementation is a vote by the city's Zoning/Planning Board, which could happen at the next meeting, on April 12.
If passed, the ordinance will allow for a limit of three liquor licences to be issued; the first would likely go to Morey's Piers for use at Jumbo's Boardwalk Grille and Eatery at Mariner's Landing.
The Morey Organization has already announced plans to sell alcoholic beverages at a new family restaurant - Joe's Fish Co. - at Surfside Pier, which is located on the North Wildwood end of the boards.
Liquor has been served at that pier's Ocean Oasis Waterpark and Beach Club for the past few seasons.
It would be nice to enjoy a cocktail along with your dinner while on the boardwalk.
