[UPDATE: Jack Morey's obituary and service information can be viewed HERE]

Last evening - Monday, July 22, 2024 - the Morey Organization announced the passing of its beloved "second generation partner" (co-owner) and longtime Wildwoods icon Jack Morey.

The sad news has sent shock waves through the local community, the amusement industry and beyond, with tributes and fond stories of remembrance pouring in via social media.

A number of local organizations, each of which shared deep ties and worked intimately with Morey over the years, have issued public statements regarding his passing:

City of Wildwood

It is with profound sadness that many of us in the City of Wildwood share in mourning the passing of Wildwood icon Jack Morey of the Morey Organization – Morey’s Piers.

Jack was a friend to all of us in one way or another. He was a visionary, like his brother Will, and their father and uncle before them. He spent his life travelling the far reaches of the globe in search of ideas to bring back to our little island – to the piers, water parks, and the town – in hopes of making everything better all around him…all around us. Much of what he brought to life is the very appeal of Wildwood today. For that, we are eternally grateful. He will be memorialized in the very fabric of Wildwood forevermore.

While sometimes our ideas may have clashed with each other, the Commissioners have always held a deep respect and downright liking for Jack. You couldn’t help but marvel at his enthusiasm for everything he touched, his cheeky grin and twinkling eyes full of childlike wonderment for all things fun. Many of us have numerous fond memories of him and will cherish those as well as all the “Jack stories” of which legends are made.

We would like to extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Karen. Their love was palpable. Equally, we express our sympathy to his sons, Zack, Jordan, and their growing families. Jack was an extremely dedicated and proud father and grandfather. We also send our regards to his brother, Will, his wife Janice, and all their extended family, which included the entire Morey Organization.

Mayor Troiano, Deputy Mayor Mikulski, and Commissioner McConnell will announce a memorial in the city in the coming weeks.

Greater Wildwoods Tourism & Development Authority

The Greater Wildwoods Tourism Authority is saddened to learn of the passing of former GWTIDA Board member Jack Morey. Jack's influence on the board was felt over his decades as a member, first joining GWTIDA in 1999. Jack's vision helped to establish the Tourism Authority as a leading organization in the Wildwoods and throughout the State of New Jersey.

We offer our heartfelt condolences to the Morey family and a pledge to carry the torch of creativity lit by Jack well into the 21st Century.

Greater Wildwood Chamber of Commerce

On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff of The Greater Wildwood Chamber of Commerce, we are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Jack Morey. The Morey name is synonymous with the Wildwoods, and Jack was instrumental in the growth of tourism and the economic development of our business community through his creative and effective vision for the betterment of the Wildwoods.

Our condolences go out to his wife, Karen, his children and grandchildren, his brother, Will, his entire extended family, and his colleagues. The Wildwood business community will forever be in his debt for his contributions, and Jack's legacy will live on for generations to come.

The Morey Organization that Jack worked so hard building and branding is part of the landscape that makes the Wildwoods the community we love, and so popular with all our visitors and guests. Jack's vision for bringing family fun to our island will no doubt continue, but the sparkle may have ever so lightly dimmed. For those who had the opportunity to work with Jack in any capacity, they were forever changed and inspired by the chance to learn from such an imaginative and creative leader.

While we mourn this great loss, we also celebrate Jack's remarkable life and the enduring impact he has had on our community. His spirit will continue to guide and inspire us all.
