The Wildwoods welcome visitors and kick off Summer 2022 with jam-packed Memorial Day Weekend events ~ Friday, May 27 - Monday, May 30

THE WILDWOODS - The Wildwoods are kicking off the summer season and welcoming visitors to enjoy the best of the Jersey shore, and a whole lot more, during Memorial Day Weekend.

The Wildwoods' 2022 season is projected to be bigger than years past, as outdoor events and festivals begin to take place, new attractions and businesses open, and free weekly events are set to happen throughout the summer.

Memorial Day Weekend in the Wildwoods is jam-packed with island-wide events and happenings, taking place Friday, May 27 through Monday, May 30, as well as Memorial Day remembrance ceremonies. 

The weekend's events include:

Official Unlocking of the Ocean Ceremony
Friday, May 27 - 11 am
It's time to get your feet sandy - the fun begins at 11 am on Friday, May 27 on the beach at Andrews Avenue next to the Wildwoods Convention Center where state, county and local tourism and city officials, local school children and guest speakers will participate in the ceremony to officially unlock the ocean with the Wildwoods' large, ornate "W" key. Colorful kites will serve as the backdrop as the International Kite Festival simultaneously gets underway. Members of the media are invited to take part in the day's activities by flying kites to kick off the International Kite Festival. This event is FREE to attend and everyone is welcome. Wildwoods Island Shuttle Launch
Friday, May 27 - 11:45 am
On Friday, May 27, GWTIDA, along with the Wildwood, Wildwood Crest and North Wildwood mayors and officials from the Jitney Association, will hold a joint press conference at 11:45 am in front of the "WILDWOODS" sign, located on the Boardwalk at Rio Grande Avenue, to announce the service. Two Wildwoods Island Shuttles will be on display in front of the "WILDWOODS" sign for demonstration and photo opportunities.
The Wildwoods Island Shuttle will begin service in the Wildwoods on Thursday, May 26, starting with weekends-only service Memorial Day Weekend through Sunday, June 19. Service will transition to a daily route Monday, June 20 through Labor Day, Monday, September 5, with shuttles returning to weekend-only service Friday, September 9 through Saturday, October 22. A free app, Jitney Surfer, can be downloaded from Google Play and the Apple App store - it allows riders to view a map of shuttle routes and real-time locations of each shuttle. The cost to ride will be $3 one-way and $4 on the late-night route. Service will be "Stop on Demand" for the entire route.

Wildwoods International Kite Festial
Friday, May 27 - Monday, May 30
The 36th Annual Wildwoods International Kite Festival, the largest kite festival in North America, features kite makers from around the world flying their most incredible colorful creations. The Kite Festival is FREE to spectators and kicks off on Friday, May 27 at 11 am with the Unlocking of the Ocean Ceremony on the beach at Andrews Avenue, south of the Wildwoods Convention Center. Kite festivities follow with the opening of the Kite Sales Tent, a Friday night kite social and the 9 pm illuminated kite fly at the Rio Grande Avenue beach behind the famous Wildwoods sign. The Kite Festival continues Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29, starting at 9 am daily with fun events geared toward introducing new folks to the sport of kiting!
Join in the Kite Candy Drop, the Running of the Bols and the Rev Meg Fly; fly a kite on the Learn to Fly Field or watch the professional Fighter Kite Competition. Also featured are free kite exhibits and workshops on the beach. The Wildwoods International Kite Festival Auction will be held inside the Wildwoods Convention Center at 7 pm on Saturday. The auction is open to the public and many unique kites and collectibles will be up for bid. The kite festivities conclude with the World Indoor Kite Competition at the Wildwoods Convention Center on Monday, May 30 from 9:30 am - noon, and is FREE to attend. Kite fliers will showcase their impressive ability to fly a kite indoors without wind, and all performances will be choreographed to music.

Regional Gymnastics Championships
Friday, May 27 - Sunday, May 29
The United States Association of Independent Gymnastics Club will return to the Wildwoods Convention Center to hold the Regional Gymnastics Championships over Memorial Day Weekend - Friday, May 27 through Sunday, May 29. Talented athletes will compete on the floor, balance beam, uneven bars and vault. The competitions will be choreographed to music and prizes will be awarded to the top finishers. Times for the event are Friday from 9:30 am - 9 pm; Saturday from 8 am - 10 pm; and Sunday from 8 am - 9 pm (times are subject to change). Admission fee TBA.

Fitness in the Plaza featuring Boot Camp Circuit Traning

The Crest Best Swim Fest features a Freedom Mile with a 1-Mile Open Water Swim, and Freedom ¼-Mile with a 500 Yard Open Water Swim at Sunset Lake in Wildwood Crest. Downtown Wildwood Farmer’s Market Opens

The Downtown Wildwood Farmer’s Market kicks off its 9th season Saturday, May 28 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., rain or shine. The Downtown Wildwood Farmers Market is the place to be every Saturday morning from Memorial Day to Labor Day Weekend for Jersey Fresh produce, baked goods, specialty foods, gifts and more. Extending from Byrne Plaza, at 3400 Pacific Avenue, from Oak Avenue to Schellenger Avenue, the market will feature over 60 vendors. Beach Boys Tickets at the Wildwoods Convention Center
Saturday, May 28
Avoid the fees and purchase your Beach Boys – Sixty Years of Summer concert tickets in person at the Wildwoods Convention Center for a one-day, in-person ticket sales event. The Ticketmaster Box Office at Wildwoods Convention Center will be open for Beach Boys ticket sales 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 28. The Beach Boys – who have become synonymous with the California lifestyle and an American icon to fans around the world – will bring their “Sixty Years of the Sounds of Summer” tour to The Oceanfront Arena at the Wildwoods Convention Center on Saturday, August 27.

Memorial Day Weekend Craft Show

The Boardwalk Craft Show is a must-see for any fan of handmade products. Sunrise On Sunday Veteran Flag Service
Sunday, May 29
A free ceremony taking place on Sunday, May 29, and every Sunday morning throughout the summer, to raise the casket flag of a Veteran and to honor and remember all veterans. Held at the Lou Booth Amphitheater at 2nd and Ocean Avenues in North Wildwood. Patrick Corcoran 5K Memorial Day Run to Remember

Wildwood Crest’s Summer Kickoff Concert will take place on Sunday, May 29 in Centennial Park, Fern Road and Ocean Avenue, at 7:30 p.m. The FREE, outdoor, all-ages concert will feature dance and party hits by The Chatterband – marking an exciting start to the summer season. North Wildwood Memorial Day Ceremony
Monday, May 30
A Memorial Day Ceremony, hosted by the VFW Post 5941, will be held at the North Wildwood Veterans Monument, located at Spruce and New York Avenues in North Wildwood at 10 a.m. There will also be a service at 9:30 a.m. at the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse flagpole where the names of the VFW Post 5941 members who have died since last Memorial Day will be read and their service honored. Wildwood Memorial Day Ceremony
Monday, May 30
