Boardwalk Shuffle: Johnson’s Popcorn moves out, Quincy’s Original Lobster Rolls moves in

“The Boardwalk Shuffle,” as we like to call it, has begun!

Every year, the roster of businesses along the Wildwoods Boardwalk sees at least a handful of changes, with new entities arriving, others leaving and some finding new locations.

Considering the volume of activity around the island as it relates to new businesses and construction this offseason, we can expect more movement than usual along the world famous promenade.

The first change we can officially report on is 2701 Boardwalk, at the front of the old Hunt’s Pier. This has been the home of Johnson’s Popcorn for the past eight seasons, but no longer. Moving into the space this Spring will be Quincy’s Original Lobster Rolls.

Quincy’s debuted at 3012 Boardwalk last May, and enjoyed a strong first season until the entire 3000 block (between Glenwood and Pine Avenues) was forced to close after damages incurred by a storm in mid-August.

We recently spoke with management, which is excited about the move and hopes to be open in early May. The facade, nestled between East Side Sports and Capt’n Jack’s Island Grill, is being modified to include seating along the Boardwalk (8-10 stools in an outcove to the right of the counter).

Quincy’s opened its first location in Cape May in 2015 and already boasts five locations in Cape May County, including spots in Ocean City and Sea Isle City. Take a look at their general menu HERE (items may differ by location) and check out www.quincysoriginal.com for additional info.

Johnson's Popcorn Wildwood, 2013-2020

Johnson’s Popcorn is, of course, an iconic name in Ocean City, where it has been serving up its famous hot caramel-covered kernels since 1940. It’s Wildwood location opened in 2013, and, though it did not quite last a decade, will be missed.

Johnson’s home at 14th Street on the Ocean City Boardwalk continues to operate year round.
