The Wildwoods announce reopening of Wildwood, North Wildwood beaches and Boardwalk on Friday, May 8th

The Wildwoods, NJ – North Wildwood Mayor Patrick Rosenello and Wildwood Mayor Pete Byron announced that North Wildwood and Wildwood beaches and boardwalk will reopen to limited activity on Friday, May 8. 

In addition, the cities’ parks and playgrounds will also reopen. Wildwood Crest Mayor Don Cabrera announced that Wildwood Crest beaches, bike path and parks are currently open.

[The playgrounds in Wildwood Crest are currently NOT open to the public. As of now there is no timetable to open them.]

Walking, running and fishing will be welcomed on the beaches. Sunbathing, sitting and swimming while on the beaches is currently prohibited. Physical activities such as biking, walking and running may take place on the boardwalk. Boardwalk establishments offering takeout-only food, will also be open for business. 

Everyone is encouraged to use best practices for social distancing, including wearing masks while enjoying the beach and boardwalk. Sitting and gathering in groups is prohibited.

“Welcoming visitors back to our destination is key to the Wildwoods’ recovery from the recent crisis, and this is an exciting first step toward the start of a fun-filled summer season,” explained Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement and Development Authority (GWTIDA) Executive Director/CFO John Siciliano. 

“We look forward to welcoming everyone to enjoy the beaches, boardwalk, and parks of North Wildwood and Wildwood, however, we must stress using extreme caution and practicing social distancing at all times, so that all may enjoy our destination safely.”

Visitors to the boardwalk, beaches, or at the parks and playgrounds must adhere to the social distancing guidelines set forth by Governor Murphy, which state that persons are permitted in public places under the following conditions: 

Activity is limited to walking, running, operating a wheelchair; and engaging in outdoor activities with immediate family members, caretakers, household members, or romantic partners while following best social distancing practices with other individuals, including staying six feet apart.

GWTIDA is working collectively with the island’s municipalities, the Greater Wildwood Hotel and Motel Association (GWHMA), the Wildwood Business Improvement District (WBID), the Wildwood Special Improvement District (WSID), and the Greater Wildwood Chamber of Commerce to encourage them to implement initiatives among the destination’s businesses and attractions to enhance the safety of employees and guests as the Wildwoods gradually re-opens. 

These include increased intensive sanitizing protocols, social distancing procedures and of course social distancing on the wide, spacious beaches.
