Neighborhood service, tradition continue under new owners at Suncrest Market

Family owned and operated for nearly a half-century, Suncrest Market is in many ways the quintessential “corner store down-the-shore.”

With emphasis on community, service and value, the Thompson family welcomed generations of locals and vacationers to the corner of New Jersey & Preston, deep in the heart of Wildwood Crest.

When the market opens for the new season, on Friday, May 22 (soft opening) it will do so under new ownership for the very first time, with the Vassallo-Jones family taking the reins.

And so, the tradition continues…

“The Vassallo-Jones family has a long history of being affiliated with the market as customers and friends of the Thompson family,” the new owners told Wildwood 365 in a collective statement. “Members of our family even worked there in the summers of their youth.

“Much will remain the same at the Suncrest. Many of the employees are returning, including the most recent cook. Many of our vendors and menu items will remain the same as well, so customers can count on their favorite Italian hoagie or cheesesteak. But we are adding some upgrades as well.”

Changes will include a new layout, “allowing for a more spacious shopping experience.” In addition, the Suncrest will offer organic produce and a number of new food items, including Acia bowls, soft serve ice cream and a La Colombe coffee station.

Coffee will remain free for all veterans, active service members and first responders.

“The Suncrest is still a laid back family market. Customers can expect to meet our family dogs and children while shopping with us. We have just about everything you might need during your quarantine or family vacation.

“We hope to aid the community during this time of need.”
