WILDWOOD CREST – The Borough of Wildwood Crest Recreation Department and Can You Dig It? Sand Tools hosted the sixth annual Wildwood Crest Sand Sculpting Festival on Saturday, July 7, at the Heather Road beach.
Under the watchful eye of professional sand sculptor Matt Long, approximately 35 teams of sand sculptors competed in various categories at the free event. Competitors were provided with piles of sand and access to fresh water.
The event drew thousands of spectators.
The Wildwood Crest Sand Sculpting Festival is supported by the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement Development Authority (GWTIDA) and the Wildwood Crest Tourism Development Commission.

Ray Dare, 18, of Vineland, won the Sand Teens category at the 2018 Wildwood Crest Sand Sculpting Festival.
Darrell O’Connor, of Wilmington, Del., placed third in the Pro-Am division at the 2018 Wildwood Crest Sand Sculpting Festival.
Marc Schaffer, of Swedesboro, took second place in the Pro-Am division at the 2018 Wildwood Crest Sand Sculpting Festival.
Andy Kirkpatrick, of Media, PA, won the Pro-Am division at the 2018 Wildwood Crest Sand Sculpting Festival. The Pro-Am division is for more experienced sand sculptors.
Madison Adair, 6, and Tyler Adair, 9, of Pipersville, Pa., won the Sand Fleas category at the 2018 Wildwood Crest Sand Sculpting Festival.
A large extended family and friends from Drexel Hill, Pa., placed first in the Large Tribes division at the 2018 Wildwood Crest Sand Sculpting Festival. They also won the Best on the Beach award as voted upon by spectators.
