"New" Boardwalk Mall's identity to feature icon of the Jersey Shore's past

Late last year, we learned that the Boardwalk Mall (Garfield Avenue) would be entering 2018 under new ownership and management, and that some "big changes" were in the works.

This evening, via Facebook, the venue announced that its re-branded identity will include a big nod to the Jersey Shore's storied past...

A BUILDING WITH HISTORY... OWNERSHIP WITH ROOTS

Opened in 1897 by entrepreneur George C. Tilyou, Steeplechase Park was the first of three major amusement parks that put New York’s Coney Island on the map.

This amusement park was the model for many that followed including Atlantic City, where George Tilyou opened another Steeplechase Park which also inspired Blaker’s Pier,
the beginning of the Wildwoods, NJ amusement piers in the early 1900’s.

Steeplechase Park was a family operation that remained in business until the late 1980’s, although the “Funny Face” or “Tillie” can still be recognized as an amusement icon throughout the industry, an icon that represented Steeplechase Park and is said to be the face of the original showman George C. Tilyou.

We are very proud to announce that the inspiration of Wildwoods Amusements and Boardwalk has come full circle. A descendant of George C. Tilyou joins the new ownership team of Wildwood’s Boardwalk Mall, bringing with them over a century of excitement and a passion for seaside spectacle!
