Boardwalk Entertainment Co. going "back-to-basics and big" with 2018 event plans

This afternoon, Boardwalk Entertainment Co. will formally announce a colossal, three-day event scheduled for next summer.

Rock the Beach - Wildwood on July 16, 18 and 20 will feature "major headlining performers, joined by over a dozen top 70's and 80's rock bands performing their biggest hits" at a Garfield Avenue Beach venue that will be able to accommodate up to 35,000 fans each day.

(The lineups are expected to be released in early 2018.)

Despite the scope of the endeavor, along with additional events planned, Boardwalk Entertainment Co. owner and founder Amanda Thomas told Wildwood 365 that her organization is taking a re energized, fundamental approach to promotion.

"We're going back-to-basics. In a lot of ways, it's like starting fresh," she said. "My goal has always been to bring a variety of large- and smaller-scale events to Wildwood that will be popular in their own right, while putting more eyes on this wonderful town and all it has to offer.

"The expansive beach allows for so many opportunities and is a prime location for 'Rock the Beach - Wildwood.'"

I don’t want to be 10 years down the road saying “what if” I had done this or did that, I want to be 10 years down the road saying “hey remember when I did this really awesome thing?” I think’s its really important for people to do what they love and be happy.”  - Amanda Thomas

Boardwalk Entertainment Co. created and produced Celebrate America Weekend in 2016, which culminated with a Tim McGraw beach concert on the Fourth of July that drew an estimated 20,000 people, despite uncooperative weather conditions. Thomas remains proud of the event, noting that her company is "the only independent promotion to execute a large scale beach concert featuring a major artist on the entire East Coast."

That said, Thomas is focused on the present. One of the recent moves she made was to streamline her businesses for more efficiency. Rock the Beach - Wildwood will be promoted by Boardwalk Entertainment Co. and officially produced by its parent company, AMT Business Group.

Thomas also hopes to cultivate further relationships with local businesses to ensure the success of future events.

"I can't stress enough how important it is for us to work with the community," she said. "In addition to seeking event sponsors, we are open to suggestions and ideas. We would love to hear from as many people and businesses as possible. Not just with regard to "Rock the Beach," but for all of our other events we run.

"I consider it a huge part of the process, so please reach out, whether you have a concern, questions or ideas."

While Boardwalk Entertainment Co. did not host a beach concert this past summer, Thomas kept very busy and continued her strong working relationship with the City of Wildwood.

Back in April, the Spring Food Truck Festival drew 3,000 people to Fox Park, doubling the amount from the inaugural event in 2016. The second annual Fall Food Truck Festival is set for Saturday, October 21.

Thomas also took over the city's Movies on the Beach program in 2017, which drew an average of 400 attendees at Leaming Avenue Beach on Friday nights. Boardwalk Entertainment Co. will continue running Movies on the Beach next year, moving the screenings to Thursday nights (where they will no longer conflict with Friday Night Fireworks).

"Boardwalk Entertainment brings a lot to the table, and we are excited about the events Amanda is putting together," said Wildwood Mayor Ernie Troiano. "She brings a lot of energy and enthusiasm, youthful energy and ideas. These are things we always look for.

"We're looking forward to a fantastic concert venue next summer. The bottom line is that we want Amanda to do well and we want 'Rock the Beach' to be a huge for the city and the island. When everyone works together, everyone wins."

In addition to Rock the Beach - Wildwood, new events for 2018 will include a dog adoption day at the new Wildwood Dog Beach Park as well as weekly professional wrestling events that will boast "some big names that will bring a lot of smiles to people's faces," according to Thomas.

"Working with Mayor Troiano and Commissioners [Anthony] Leonetti and [Pete] Byron over the past year and a half has been a great experience for me," she said. "There's an open door policy at City Hall. It's a very warm and welcoming atmosphere.

"We have a great partnership, which is the only way events like Rock the Beach - Wildwood can be created and promoted. They have put their trust in Boardwalk Entertainment Co. and myself, and I'm very confident that we will deliver."
