Update: Tom Cat staying on Rio Grande; current operators moving south to the Crest

We have an update to our earlier story on the Tom Cat Restaurant:

The longtime Rio Grande Avenue fixture will remain put, while its current operators, Dave and Liz Bannon, will be moving to the Saratoga Grill at the Saratoga Inn, Farragut & Ocean Avenues in Wildwood Crest.

The future of the physical Tom Cat building (and name) remains uncertain at this time.

Dating all the way back to 1946, when it was opened by Ruth Taylor as a four-stool outdoor stand, the Tom Cat is one of the island's most storied institutions.

From the Facebook post from the Bannons, which made the announcement:

This will be our last weekend at the Tom Cat. We want to thank all our loyal customers and friends for their support and patronage over the last four years! We appreciate you helping us keep the Tom Cat legend alive! It has been our pleasure serving you and we hope you continue to come see us in the Crest. Same great food, new exciting place!

This weekend's hours at 437 W. Rio Grande Avenue:

Saturday:  7 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Sunday:  7 a.m. - 2 p.m.  (WHS Baseball Breakfast)
