4th of July Beach 'n Boardwalk Patriotic 5K and 1-Mile Family Walk to benefit upkeep of Wildwood Vietnam Memorial Wall

PRESS RELEASE

Over the past 4 years, the Wildwoods 5K Beach n’ Boardwalk Patriotic Run has raised over $30,000 for the maintenance and upkeep of the Wildwoods Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall.

With upwards of 600 runners participating, this family oriented run has become a premier 4th of July event for the Island of the Wildwoods.

Event registration and packet pick up is at the Vietnam Memorial Wall across from the Wildwoods Convention Center on Saturday, July 4, 2015 from 7:00 a.m. to 8:45 a.m.

The 5K Patriotic Run will start at 9:00 a.m. sharp with the 1-mile walk to follow.

The race route will go from the Wildwoods Vietnam Veterans Wall up the Montgomery Avenue ramp down the boardwalk to the Burke Ave boardwalk extension down to the hard packed sand at the water line, south to Stockton road and back to Burke Avenue where the race will end on the beach.

Event organizers are proud to announce that lifelong Wildwood native and 2011 Wildwood Catholic graduate Zach DeWeese has been selected to be the 2015 Patriotic 5K Grand Marshal. Zack is a US Marine corporal in the 2nd battalion, 2nd marine division stationed in Camp Lejeune, NC.

Corporal DeWeese is an infantry squad leader recently returned from the South of Spain as part of a team that responded to the crisis in Africa.

When asked if he would like to be the Grand Marshal (Zach is on a 96-hour leave over the holiday) he responded with one request:

"Can I carry the American Flag as I run the course?"

Corporal DeWeese will certainly be easy to spot in this year’s 5K Patriotic run.

The registration fee for the 5K Beach n’ Boardwalk Patriotic Run is $25 for adults and $10 for students 18 and younger.

Commemorative T-shirts will be given to all participants who pre-register at www.WildwoodsWall.com/5k.
