Philly POPS to perform FREE Fourth of July concert at Fox Park
At last night's Commissioners meeting at City Hall, Wildwood Mayor Ernie Troiano made it official:
The Philly POPS will perform a FREE concert at Fox Park on Saturday, July 4th!
According to Troiano, the show will begin at 8:30 pm and will be followed by the annual fireworks spectacular around 10 pm.
Tickets for Philly POPS shows typically range from $60 - $70, so this is a great opportunity to see the renowned orchestra at no cost, in a truly unique setting.
We would venture to say that this has the potential to be one of (if not the) biggest events ever held at Fox Park. Troiano suggested that people should plan to come early, in anticipation of a huge turnout.
We'll post more details as they become available...

Morey's Piers kicks off 47th season; Giant Wheel turns 30
Morey's Piers kicked off its 47th season of operation early today at Mariner's Pier.
(A slight, but notable, change - "Landing" has been dropped from the pier's name.)
Along with it, one of the great icons in Wildwood history reached a major milestone, as...
The Giant Wheel turns 30!
Where does the time go?
The 156-foot Ferris wheel has been Mariner's centerpiece attraction, and one of the island's most recognizable landmarks, since being installed for the 1985 season.
It debuted the year after the Sea Serpent, a one-two punch that put the exclamation points on the Morey Organization's rise to prominence on the Boardwalk.
Let's take a look back through time...
Above, the Giant Wheel, an instant eye-opener and game changer, under construction during the Spring of 1985. This view shows how much has changed at Mariner's in the three decades since.
The Sea Serpent during it's debut season in 1984. How strange does this view look without The Wheel?

WILD Weekend: Easter & "The Opening of the Boardwalk," Egg Hunts, Wrestling, and Morey's Piers!
For generations, Easter Weekend has been celebrated as the "unofficial opening" of the Boardwalk (which, of course, never technically closes).
Long gone are the days when hats, suits, dresses and bonnets were the standard, but the tradition continues, with a festive holiday atmosphere.
More and more businesses have been opening in recent weeks, and a good number are expected to welcome guests this weekend - including Mariner's Pier, which will be open on Saturday and Sunday as Morey's Piers kicks off its 47th season of operation.
The weekend will feature plenty to do for the little ones, including three egg hunts.
Here's what's goin' down this weekend in the 'Woods...

KONG To Make a Colossal Return to Morey's Piers
Classic Seaside Attraction Reincarnates Legendary Wildwood Boardwalk Ride for Debut Memorial Day Weekend
“Walk on the Wild Side” Package Offers VIP Access
PRESS RELEASE
The Wildwoods, NJ – April 1, 2015 – KONG is coming this summer to Morey’s Piers & Beachfront Water Parks, the classic seaside attraction located on the boardwalk of the Wildwoods, NJ.
Once an iconic boardwalk landmark in early 1970s, the brand new gorilla themed amusement ride will open to the public Memorial Day weekend serving as the new centerpiece of Surfside Pier.
KONG, snorting smoke and fog, will sport an “I love Wildwood” t-shirt and clutch one of Wildwood’s well-known tram cars while hanging from the 60 feet tall lighthouse at the ride’s center.
Eight vintage world war planes will duck, dive and navigate around the infamous gorilla, bringing riders 26 feet in air. After sunset, KONG will light up the night sky with a rotating light on top of the lighthouse and enhanced LED lighting outlining each ride vehicle.
Underneath the ride is Kong & Co., a new 3,000 square foot retail space offering charging stations and comfy chairs, as well as chocolate covered frozen bananas and merchandise for purchase.
“KONG is among one of the most well-known of all landmarks to grace Morey’s Piers over the last five decades and it was time to bring this classic back to life,” said Jack Morey, second generation partner of Morey’s Piers.
“It might have taken nearly forty years, a public voting of the masses to finalize the design, at a cost of about $1.6 million bananas, but we’re thrilled to welcome back KONG to his rightful home on Surfside Pier.”
As part of the ride debut, Morey Hotels & Resorts is inviting guests to take a “Walk on the Wild Side” with a two-night hotel package that provides VIP access to KONG. The hotel package includes:
· Two night stay at the Pan American, Port Royal, The Starlux or Blue Palms Resort
· Two ride and water park combo wristbands valid for two days
· Two complimentary chocolate covered frozen bananas at the new KONG & Co. store
· One complimentary front of the line pass valid for up to four people at KONG
· KONG souvenir gift at check-in
Prices per night start at $138 at the Pan American, $146 at the Port Royal, $101 at The Starlux and $100 at the Blue Palms Resort for a two-night stay, based on double occupancy.
The “Walk on the Wild Side” package is available for stays Sunday to Thursday, between June 14 and July 9, 2015 at the Pan American and Port Royal, and June 14 through July 23, 2015 at The Starlux and Blue Palms Resort. Rooms are subject to availability; price does not include hotel tax.
To book, guests can call the resort and mention the “Walk on the Wild Side” package.
From April 6 through May 17, Morey’s Piers fans will have the chance to win the ultimate KONG ride experience by entering the Conquer KONG Contest hosted on the attraction’s Facebook page. One lucky winner, along with nine of their friends and family, will receive all day ride passes, a half hour of exclusive ride time on KONG prior to the piers opening, KONG souvenirs and a pizza party.
To enter, visit www.facebook.com/MoreysPiers and enter a valid email address. Entrants who share the contest on their Facebook page will earn a second entry. Must be 13 years or older to participate; winners and their guests must meet the ride height requirement of 44” tall to ride alone; 36” to 44” tall must be accompanied by a supervising companion.
