On that note, a very special shout-out today to Maui and Liz from Maui's Dog House (806 New Jersey Avenue).
The Maui family had originally intended to open for the season next Wednesday, April 1.
Earlier this week, however, an email from the family of a Special Olympics child, asking if they would be open this weekend, changed their plans.
The Special Olympics NJ Basketball Finals are in town this weekend. This child had visited Maui's three years ago and had a blast.
Maui and Liz took about 10 minutes to make their decision. Some 20 phone calls later - arranging for earlier food and soda deliveries, menu finalization, website updating, and some amazing work by their team - they made it happen!
Maui's will open today for its 16th season, 11 am - 7 pm; hours tomorrow (Sunday) are 11 am - 4 pm.
