Morey’s Piers’ 12-week Social Training Program Helps Prepare Runners for The Wild Half Marathon


2015 Race to Feature New Celebrations and Activities for Runners

The Wildwoods, NJ – Starting February 20, Morey’s Piers, the classic shore side amusement park destination located on the boardwalk in the Wildwoods, NJ, invites runners of The Wild Half to train together with a customized 12-week social media training program. The 13.1 mile half marathon and 8K race along the Wildwoods coastline will be held on May 17, 2015.  

Available via the Wild Half Marathon and 8K Facebook page (www.facebook.com/thewildhalf), racers are encouraged to “like” the page to receive weekly training posts and updates as well as share personal advice, experiences and milestones with like-minded runners.  Posts will include week-long running schedules with specific miles and goals, tips, tricks, motivational quotes, and more.

The Wild Half’s scenic Wildwoods course will lead runners from ocean views to an action-packed boardwalk.  Participants will be treated to several new fun-filled activities on race day including:  


·         Cheer Stations” – sponsored by local businesses, charities, and organizations, a number of “cheer stations” will be located throughout the course to provide added encouragement and support for this year’s athletes. At Morey’s Piers’ cheer station located in front of Mariner’s Pier runners can indulge in a quick wisp of cotton candy for a burst of sugary energy.  For more information on becoming a cheer station sponsor, contact wildhalf@moreyspiers.com.
·         Boardwalk Style Finish Line Party – after weeks of training, runners will cross the finish line to a celebration filled with boardwalk favorites including funnel cake, soft pretzels, cotton candy, Rita’s Water Ice, Johnson’s Popcorn, Laura’ Fudge and Salt Water Taffy, and refreshing beer, in addition to an array of healthy snacks.
·         Kids Activity Center – the new Kids Zone Tent is designed to occupy the little ones during the race, featuring face painting, arts and crafts, games, and activities from 8:00am to10:00am.
·         Awards Ceremony – Will and Jack Morey and the entire Morey family will be waiting at the finish line to congratulate runners as they cross the finish line. Medals will be presented to the top finishers in each age category.
·         The After, After Party – celebrations from the Finish Line Party will continue at the Taco Joint on Mariner’s Pier where participating runners will receive discounts on tacos and a selection of brews on tap.
