Gentlemen, turn back the clock (THEN start your engines)...

During the early 20th Century, beaches were a preferred testing ground for large machinery.

Wide expanses were particularly useful for experimentation with new vehicle technology, offering long straightaways and rugged conditions that could challenge durability and performance.

This weekend, the Wildwoods will turn back the clock to those days of pioneering competition with The 2nd Annual Race of Gentlemen.

Presented by the Oilers Car Club under the banner of Wildwood Motor Events, this invitation-only series of races will feature a collection of pre-war (1920s/30s) cars and motorcycles battling it out at the water's edge.

The festivities begin on Friday night (October 4) with a pre-party and car/bike show at the Starlux Hotel (Atlantic & Rio Grande).

Races will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., with live rock & roll during the races featuring Ba Babes ad The Nude Dudes.

Sunday will feature more car/motorcycle racing from 10 am. - 4 p.m., followed by an award ceremony and beach party.

* Estimated racing line up for each day is 9 a.m.
