Harlem Globetrotters to Arrive via Wildwood Tram Car

PRESS RELEASE

Wednesday, August 10 at 1:30 p.m., accompanied by a new recording of “Watch the Globetrotters, please,” a full team of ten Harlem Globetrotters will step off a Greyhound bus and onto Wildwood’s famous Sightseer Tram Car.

Starting at Rio Grande Avenue and the Boardwalk in Wildwood, the team will head north on the boardwalk into North Wildwood and make the return trip ending at the Wildwoods Convention Center.

Equipped with basketballs, the team will perform their Globetrotter magic on a four-mile round trip into North Wildwood before ending at the Wildwoods Convention Center, where they play four games from Wednesday, August 10 through Saturday, August 13, nightly at 7 p.m.

Greyhound, who supplies the Globetrotters’ transportation around the country, manufactured Wildwood’s famous Tram Cars for the 1939 World’s Fair.

Floss Stingel, who recorded “Watch the Tram Car, Please” in 1971, came out of retirement to record “Watch the Globetrotters, Please.” This will mark the first time the recording has changed in 40 years. Stingel’s original recording ironically came the same year as the Globetrotters last lost to the Washington Generals (January 5, 1971, in Martin, TN).

Fans in Wildwood are scheduled to see Big Easy Lofton, Scooter Christensen, Firefly Fisher, Thunder Petway, Handles Franklin, Bull Bullard, Slick Willie Shaw, Hammer Harrison, Cheese Chisholm, and Hacksaw Hall. (Player rosters are subject to change.)

Tickets for the games in Wildwood are available at www.harlemglobetrotters.com or in person at the Wildwoods Convention Center Box Office.
