Boardwalk again makes NatGeo's "Top 10" list

For the second straight year, the Wildwoods have been named home to one of the "Top 10 U.S. Boardwalks" by National Geographic Traveler. (See 2010)

Here's the official release from the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement & Development Authority (GWTIDA)...

THE WILDWOODS, NJ - The Wildwoods have received a major honor this month as the Wildwoods Boardwalk was named among National Geographic Traveler’s “Top 10 U.S. Boardwalks” for 2011.

According to the National Geographic Traveler website, the world-famous Wildwoods Boardwalk was recognized and awarded membership on the list due to being “one of the kitschiest boardwalks in the country” and a “two-mile stretch of neon” packed with all of the necessary shore attractions like funnel cakes & boardwalk fare, arcades, water parks and amusement piers with more rides than Disneyland.

National Geographic Traveler is the world's most widely read travel magazine – celebrating journeys that are about place, experience, culture, authenticity, living like the locals and great photography while making a distinction between tourism and travel and employing storytelling that inspires readers to pick up and go.

“Recognition from a reputable and well-known publication like National Geographic Traveler further enforces the fact that the Wildwoods Boardwalk is one of the major reasons why the Wildwoods are one of the top family resort destinations in the country,” said John Siciliano, Executive Director for the Greater Wildwoods Tourism Improvement & Development Authority (GWTIDA).

“On behalf of GWTIDA, we thank everyone involved in making the Wildwoods Boardwalk one of the country’s most incredible attractions, along with each and every one of the nine million visitors that visit our island every year.”

The Wildwoods were also recognized as one of TripAdvisor’s top three “Travelers’ Choice Family Award-Winning U.S. Amusement Park Destinations” in 2011; Smarter Travel’s “Best Beach Town In America For a Classic Experience” in 2010; one of Sherman’s Travel’s “Top Ten American Boardwalks” in 2009 and 2010; and one of Forbes Traveler's "Top Ten American Boardwalks" in 2009.

In addition to its award-winning boardwalk, the Wildwoods are also home to nationally-recognized beaches – voted “Best Beaches in New Jersey” – that are FREE to enjoy, along with over 180 festivals and events throughout the year, plus the country’s largest concentration of mid-century “Doo-Wop” architecture.
