Crest native Vogel to coach NBA's Pacers

Wildwood Crest native Frank Vogel is expected to be named interim head coach of the NBA's Indiana Pacers at a 4 p.m. press conference today. He will replace the recently-fired Jim O'Brien.

Vogel is currently in his fourteenth season in the league, his eighth as an assistant coach. He served under O'Brien in previous stints with the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics, and was also employed as an advance scout with the Los Angeles Lakers and Washington Wizards.

A 1996 graduate of the University of Kentucky, Vogel became a video coordinator for the Wildcats after graduation.

He also attended Juniata College in Huntington, PA, where he was a three-year starter for the Division III Eagles. He transferred to Kentucky, became a student manager and played on the junior varsity team during his senior year.

Congrats, Frank, and best of luck!
